My kids love their kid-friendly cinnamon lattes in the morning. But recently, my husband’s boss introduced me to a tip that has totally transformed our morning drink. The secret: add the milk first! We also added some new spices for a different take.
Spiced Milk Latte
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/2 tbsp. fresh ginger, roughly chopped
- 8 cardamom pods
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp honey
Add the milk to a pot, turn on medium high heat. Then add the water and everything except honey to the pot. As you place the cardamom in the pot, open it by crushing it between your fingers. Just before the mixture boils, turn the heat off, add honey, and let it steep for 5 minutes before serving. Strain and put into mugs.
This makes 3 (kid-size) servings.
This is actually the base for how I make chai for the adults now. I just add more spices (double the ginger), and 1 tablespoon of black loose leaf tea. Sometimes I also throw in some fennel seed, whole cloves and black pepper.
