Playdough is one of my toddler’s absolute favorite activities. We like to make it together, and often choose fun colors to use in our playdough. The bright colors add to the fun. And playing with warm playdough is one of my favorite sensations!
1 cup flour
2 tbs cream of tartar
1/4 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tbs vegetable oil
Select a few favorite colors of food coloring. Mix the dry ingredients.
Decide how many colors of playdough you want to make, and divide the dry mixture into evenly into separate bowls. Then add the a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, and the proportionate amount of water and oil. For instance, if I’m making 3 different colors, I would put 1 teaspoon of oil and 1/3 cup water into each bowl.
Then cook each mixture over medium heat on the stove for about 4-5 minutes, until the dough comes together into a ball.
You can mix the dry and wet ingredients, and then separate the dough and add in the food coloring – but I think the color mixes better when you mix the color in at the same time as the water and oil.
