Simple ideas to get kids moving are the best! Egg racing could not be simpler – all you need is a spoon and an egg. We use plastic Easter Eggs, but you could use real eggs (I’d recommend hard boiled!).
Give each child a plastic egg and a spoon – then try one of these ideas!
Egg Race Ideas
- Simple race. Walk (easier to balance) from one point to another (we did the fence to the driveway), holding the spoon with the egg balanced on it. Winner is the first one to get to the end point without dropping the egg. Or dropping the egg the fewest times. For older kids, let ’em run!
- Relay race. Set up two (or more) teams with at least two children on each team. Designate a start point and an end point. line the first two racers up at the start, and the second at the end. Have the first children race to the endpoint, where they will hand off the egg to the next racer. Tip: make sure the “hand off” is clear. Decide whether you want the racers to hand off their eggs (harder) or have the second racer ready to go with their own egg and spoon.
- Obstacles. Add some obstacles to the race. Something simple is better – a jump rope for the kids to step over, cones to weave in between. I don’t like to use anything that significantly increases the chances of either falling or crashing into each other!
