We raided our recycling again, this time to create box sculptures. My son used masking tape to hold together his creations. Then we sat together and he gave me the story behind each one.
Writing down the story showed him the connection between his spoken words and the words we read. And it was exciting for him to have the story about each of his creation in a (somewhat) permanent form – he keeps asking to have them re-read to him!
In addition to the creativity of building and designing the sculptures, I love this activity because cutting and applying the tape is a great fine motor activity.
I have to warn you, though, if you start this activity, it may be some time before your kids let you take out the recycling!
